The Big Win by Patrick

Go! Go! Go!  I heard my coach holler as he almost trampled off the bench.  I took a large gulp of water after a long and tiring shift. I was about to go back on the ice with three minutes left in the championship game with a score of 2-2.

My team was dominating towards the end of the game. When I stepped foot on the ice I felt like no one could stop me. I was relentless that whole entire shift. Finally I got the puck and skated as fast as I could. I felt like I was moving at the velocity of a Bugatti sports car going it’s fastest. I zoomed around four people, launched my arms back and rocketed a shot toward the net. The power of my shot dented the crossbar but it wasn’t enough for it to go in. Dang! I could have just won the championship for my team. I needed to get it back. There was almost one minute left in the game, the other team got the puck and had a breakaway but my goalie made an unbelievable save which put our team in a great position!

I got back on the ice and got the puck and I was cutting edges around people like I was a downhill skier. There was half a minute left in the championship game and I went straight to the net skating like a deer running it’s fastest with the puck and sniped top corner, my team won the championship!!! We all through our sticks and gloves and helmets everywhere and went crazy!! We all dove into a pile of limbs. I felt great after scoring that goal and I felt like a winner.

How Outer Space Formed by Patrick

I had a question that wasn’t being answered for a long time. Finally it was answered. My question was how was outer space formed?

Scientists say that the earth and universe were created by the Big Bang. This was explained by scientist Edwin Hubble who said that 14 billion years ago the universe was born from a single point in space that exploded, hence the name “Big Bang”.  I still would like to know where this little grape sized point in space came from but even scientists don’t know.

Picture
Doesn’t everything have to come from something else? Humans come from other humans, but the universe and all of space were always there. It started as a small ball of energy that exploded. When this explosion happened all of the pieces spread out and kept spreading farther and farther apart.

Over billions of years, galaxies and planets were formed. Space continues and will always continue to expand because there is no end to space.

Ivan & Dewey by Patrick

I read the One And only Ivan and now I’m reading Dewey the Library cat. Here are some compare and contrast with Ivan and Dewey.

There are many ways Ivan and Dewey are different .For example, Dewey lives in the Library and Ivan lives in the mall. That means Dewey got adopted by a librarian and Ivan got adopted by a mall keeper.

There is another way Ivan and Dewey are different. For example Dewey is very happy has a clown and Ivan is sad.

There are lots of ways Dewey and Ivan are similar. They both were found when they were babies and they both got adopted .They like to make new friends. Another way that Ivan and Dewey are similar is that Dewey likes to entertain people and kids when they are sad and he would go to them and sit on their lap and make them happy .Ivan watches TV and draws for people and they buy his drawings to be happy.

I hope that you liked how I compare and contrasted Ivan and Dewey .I like the books because they tell about the lives and troubles of interesting animals.

Gregg & August by Patrick

Have you ever wondered what two characters from two different books have in common?  I’m doing that right now with Gregg Heffley from the Diary of a Wimpy Kid and August from the book Wonder. I’m going to tell you some things they do have in common.

One thing they have in common is they both have trouble making friends. For example, Gregg is just not the type of kid who can fit in with the cool kids. It just doesn’t work out for him that way. His only friend is Rowley and he’s just weird and a nerd. August on the other hand has a face deform so that doesn’t come so handy for him. He’s not the type of kid who can go up to another kid and say, “Hey want to be my friend,” because he’s afraid people will make fun of him because of his face deformity. Sometimes I feel bad for both of them.

Here are some things they don’t have in common. First, they treat their parents differently. For example, Gregg treats his parents badly because there way over protective. August treats his parent’s great because he loves them a lot and he calls his mom mummy and his dad daddy. Another one is August likes toys and Star Wars and Gregg doesn’t like that at all. I wonder if they would be friends if they met each other.

Hockey Equipment Essay by Patrick

Have you ever been to a hockey game before? Have you ever seen the hockey players move around? Don’t they look so stiff and stuck? You may not agree with me on that one. I know they look so fast. They would look so much more agile if the equipment wasn’t so stiff.

That’s why I think people that make hockey equipment shouldn’t make it so stiff because it can affect how people play the game and limit their skills. Here’s a personal experience. One time my brother Andrew was skating in a game and one of the players on the other team bumped into him and Andrew tried to move his arm but the fact that his equipment was so stiff caused him not to move it in time and he broke his arm in three places.

The stiff hockey equipment is also very uncomfortable it feels kind of awkward because you need to fix it like every 5 seconds and re-Velcro it and it can be a pain. Here’s a personal experience of my own. Almost every single minute of my hockey game or practice I have to fix my shoulder pads and that really is a pain.

I feel like it would be more fun to watch if the equipment was less stiff because you would have better skills and you could impress more people like coaches and scouts. Here is another example of why this stiff equipment can limit your skills. Say you have a wide open shot. You try to take the shot but you have the stiff equipment blocking your elbows from moving and you miss the net. That could make people lose faith in you and you could get cut from a good hockey team just because of the equipment.

If you think of it you might agree with me. I don’t want to risk breaking bones because of stiff equipment. Many people think the equipment is fine just the way it is, but I think it would be safer having it less stiff.

Bus Ride by Patrick

“Hey!!! Fitzy!!!” my friend Core yelled. “Come sit next to me.”
I quickly moved my feet with lightning speed to get to his seat before the bus started moving. I got to his seat and quickly sat down. The bus finally started moving. Core and I were freaking out we were so excited we couldn’t wait.

“The wheels on the bus go round and round round and round.” We could hear the other kids singing then I got that song stuck in my head of course.
“How long we staying up until tonight,” I whispered to Core.
“Probably like 5:30,” Core said.
 “Ok,” I replied.
“Hey Fitzy and Core is there enough room for three in that seat?” my friend Blake said in a loud voice. Core and I chuckled.
I said, “Hop in.” My friend Gabe was sitting in the seat next to Core Blake and I.

”Wait me you and Core are sleeping together right Fitzy,” Gabe said.
“Yeah of course,” I said back. All the sudden I look up and see a big building that said The Museum Of Science in big black bold letters. Core Blake and I got so excited. My mind flashed forward and I thought of all the fun things were going to do like staying up late, goofing off, telling jokes like your mamma jokes, and all different things like that.

“I can’t wait to goof around when we get there,” I said.
“Yeah I know right,” said Blake.
“I’m a goofy goober rock!” said Blake again. This was a fun bus ride.

News Summary by Patrick

The article that I chose is about a young NHL player named Matt Lashoff.  He plays for the Toronto Maple Leafs as a defenseman.  When Lashoff was a young hockey fan he grew up around a family that loved music.  Lashoff's dad played in many bands throughout his childhood.  Matt recalls going with his dad to bars to watch him play.  Lashoff's dad used to practice music in the garage with his band so Matt could bang around on any instruments he wanted.  This made Lashoff grow a love for music.

When Matt was 16 years old he joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.  He was so busy with hockey, all the time, that sometimes he needed to do something else to recharge.  This is when he started to write songs.  He said music had always taken away some of the stress he would have from hockey.  If he was stressed out with songwriting, he would go shoot pucks in the backyard.  In 2011' Lashoff released his first album called Living On Heart.

The reason that I chose this article, is because my brother, Andrew, is a lot like Matt Lashoff.  He plays hockey and has a passion for music as well.  Andrew has been playing guitar since he was 9 years old.  He also sings and has written many songs about his life and family.  Andrew has been playing hockey since he was 6 years old and like Lashoff, he is very passionate about hockey.  My brother uses his music as an opportunity to recharge.  When I read this article, the first person I thought of was my brother.  Maybe some day my brother, Andy, will play in the NHL like Lashoff.

News Song by Patrick

Lashoff has great hockey hands and they're very snazzy
and he plays in bands just like his Daddy.
Music's in his soul and the puck is in the goal.
He skates around the ice and his guitar is really nice.
He loves the game of hockey but music is his dream.
One can get real sloppy while the other flows like a stream.
Who would think that sports and music could truly come together?
Well just ask Lashoff, he'll know, he's been doing it forever!

CRUNCH!!!!  OOOOOH!!!! I yell oh it was just a leaf. I was walking to what my friends say the haunted house but I never believed  them  I just thought it was silly. It  kind of changed when I got there though. I saw all the rotten tome stones in the yard and I saw a big mansion . So I began to think my friends weren’t lying for once.  I take a quick look at the mansion to make sure it`s safe to go into. I see a shattered window with a skeleton face in it.

School of Fun Song

School of Fun, we're number one!
School of Fun, let's have some fun.

No hats in school,
That's a stupid rule,
Because there are hats
In this perfect school.

Wanna know why this school is so cool?
Because it has a rockin pool.
A million dollars an hour
Then you'll have that super power.

Our school has a water slide.
It is the best ride.
The rollercoaster loops and dives,
Don't forget you start off high.
Some School of Fun Rules:
  1. Hats allowed
  2. Have fun
  3. Collect your hourly $1,000,000
  4. Personal waterfalls can be accessed whenever you want
  5. No not running
  6. You have to wear the "Boston Strong" colors at least once a week

Perfect School by Patrick

Once in fourth grade I saw a kid getting trampled over by the pool and hot tub. People were pushing him, calling him names, and being disrespectful. I sprinted over to those mean kids and stuck for the innocent one.  I said to those mean kids, “Back off” They said, “what are you going to do about it?” They pushed me. I got so mad because I don’t like when people push me around like that so I grabbed him and threw him into the pool. One of the other kids tried to push me but I dodged it and pushed him away and he fell into the pool. The innocent kid got very hurt same with the mean kids so they got out of the pool and ran away. After everything I took the innocent kid to the nurse and I went back to the pool and took a dip.
